Anderson Kids: Tempe Town Lake

A couple of years ago I was able to take family photos of the Andersons and it was great to get together with them again to take some updated portraits of the kids, Audrey and Elliot. For this photoshoot, we met up at Tempe Town Lake and had some fun in the park. (Fun fact about the Andersons: Their mom, Michele, was my wife’s favorite babysitter while growing up in Tucson. Small world.)

Michele enjoys quilting, so we thought it would be great to incorporate a quilt into some of the pictures. This particular quit was made by the great-grandmother of Michele’s husband. I think great-grandma would have been pleased to see a photo of her great, great grandkids on her heirloom quilt.

Michele wanted to feature some of the activities that Audrey and Elliot are involved in this year, as well as snag a picture of Elliot with his little red wagon (which he has taken a photo with every year of his life, the first one being at nine-days-old).

A couple shots of Mom and the kids:

To end the photoshoot, we let the kids release their balloons (they told me that they were sending the balloons up to heaven for their dog Meeka). What a great way to end a fun day! Thanks Anderson family!

    David & BreAnne

After a quick outfit change, we continued David and Bre’s vintage engagement session along a stretch of desert highway near David’s parent’s house (a.k.a. my in-laws), who live just outside of Tucson, Arizona.

I love this next series of shots and the fun story that David and BreAnne created with their expressions:

I told you in Part One that David and BreAnne put a lot of thought and creativity into their outfit and prop choices in order to achieve a very authentic vintage-style photoshoot. Their preparation allowed me to produce images with that extra “something.” The final prop they tracked down was no exception. It was completely awesome. Vintage Mercedes? Yes, please.

Just before we left the home of the extremely generous car-owner who allowed us access to his Mercedes, we happened to glance behind a storage shed and found one more old gem that we just had to snag a few pictures with:

We had such a great time during this whole engagement shoot.  Thanks David and BreAnne and congratulations (and Bre – welcome to the family, we’re thrilled to have you!)

      Devin’s Bio

I am a professional photographer in Chandler, Arizona and I absolutely love what I do! I love working with people. Stick me in a cubicle and I’ll probably go crazy. As a photographer I get to celebrate and be a part of the lives of the people I work with. I get to see brides smilling big as they walk down the isle to their grooms. I get to freeze special moments with couples who are pregnant with their first child or moments where they are holding a newborn in their arms. I get to photograph high school seniors and encourage them as they prepare for their college dreams. I know that these moments in life are so important which is why I care so much about my work, and why I strive to do the best I can to capture these memories and emotions for you to enjoy years later. My passion for life and photography can be seen in my work.

Other things you might like to know about me:

Weston & Isaac: Studio Infant Portraits

I recently spent some time at a photography seminar learning more about studio lighting. I was so excited about the new techniques I picked up that I had to test them out! Fortunately for me, I have two adorable twin sons who don’t mind being my little photography guinea pigs… errrr… models. There are definitely benefits to being a photographer dad with cute kids (and yes, I will leverage those benefits).

Here are some studio shots of my firstborn (by one hour and five minutes), Weston:

And some portraits of my youngest son (by one hour and five minutes), Isaac:

          Brian & Shelby: Glendale, AZ

Brian and Shelby met as theatre majors at Northern Arizona University (my alma mater). They were instant friends but it took them a few years to get their relationship status on the same page (when she was single, he was taken and when he was available, she’d be dating someone else). But eventually, the stars aligned and they started dating, fell in love, moved to Phoenix, started a theatre company (Brelby Theatre) and got married.

I’ve been taking production photos of Brelby’s plays since their opening season and was excited to take some portraits of these two as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. We started their portrait session in historic downtown Glendale. Being actors, these two were hysterical and it was so fun capturing the playful love they have for each other.

Brian and Shelby’s last name is Maticic and they are both “comics” which inspired this next shot:

After some very delicious lattes at Shot of Java, we headed back to Brian and Shelby’s home for some fun in the kitchen.

When I initially met with Brian and Shelby to chat about their portrait session, I asked if they had any ideas for what they’d like to do. Brian replied, “Well, we’ve got about a hundred ideas, ranging from underwater to a food fight in our kitchen.” The idea of a food fight instantly sparked our creative brainstorming and we spent the next half hour sipping coffee (yes more coffee – we like coffee) and laughing about how big of a mess could be made in their kitchen. And when their food fight photo shoot arrived, they held nothing back. It was one huge, awesome mess.

Best quote from the day: “I don’t think I’ve ever felt this dirty… EVER.” – Brian

Brian and Shelby’s dog, Rumor, wanted to get in on the fun too:

Thanks so much to Brian and Shelby for the laugh-out-loud, messy, fun time! You guys are awesome.

(If you live in the Phoenix area, check out one of Brelby’s shows sometime. They’ll be performing at the Phoenix Fringe Festival in early March (and I’ll be there shooting pictures), so if you’re in the mood for something a little edgy and off-color, check it out – more details here.)
